The Sandhills AGInnovation Center is local project to support farmers and expand the local farm economy by giving farmers more options, resources, and connections to markets.
The Sandhills farm economy is still transitioning away from tobacco, looking to other agricultural enterprises and and new market access to strengthen profits and economic growth. Agricultural markets change rapidly, with new opportunities emerging daily. The AGInnovation Center will provide the training, spaces, equipment, and services necessary for farmers and local entrepreneurs to capitalize on new opportunities.
The Center includes:
- loading docks
- walk-in coolers
- packing and handling room
- mobile cooling units
- refrigerated trailers
- fresh produce processing equipment
- training room
- business support services
The Center is available for use by all regional farmers, entrepreneurs, distributors, and people interested in farming and food entrepreneurship.
The Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative, a multi-farm CSA bringing fresh, locally grown food produced by Sandhills farmers and artisans to consumers in the Sandhills, utilizes SAIC resources to support their program in the local community and surrounding areas.
